Recent Oximeter Trends: Updated Friday 12/2/11

Buying an Oximeter on Amazon.com

One of the better ways to buy an oximeter is on Amazon.  On Amazon you can find the latest models with very competitive pricing.  The downside is that there is no one there who can answer your questions about features and pricing.  We recommend that if you do buy an oximeter on the Amazon.com website, that you actually buy the product that is shipped by Amazon.  That way, if you have any problems with the product, you return it for free using their free shipping return service.  Another advantage is that most sellers on Amazon live off of good feedback ratings.  If a customers has a bad experience, most distributors will do whatever they need to make it right.

For Your convenience we have selected some of the most popular oximeters on Amazon.  As a reminder, we do not sell oximeters.  We just offer free information.

Independent Oximeter Distributor

The pulse oximeter market is getting crazy with the number of oximeters and distributors available.  A recent keyword search for Pulse Oximeter had at least 5 distributors with a $29.00 price point for their oximeters.  Remember you get what you pay for....

We are noticing that consumers are buying more on price than any other consideration. We can only guess   this is either a result of poor economy and or the lower priced oximeters are catching up with the quality of the higher priced devices on the market. Either way, oximeters are dropping in price. Not so long ago, a good oximeter cost as much as $500.00. Now the same oximeter can be found for under $200.00. A very large number of oximeters, manufactures and distributors make this a very competitive marketplace.

We buying a oximeter, we suggest that you stick with a well known distributor.  There are dozens of websites offering all kinds of incentives to entice the purchase.  We suggest that you don't buy on price alone.  Look at the models, compare a few sites and buy from the one that makes you the most comfortable.  Below are some other buying suggestions.  Also check out our video review.

  Oximeter Buying Experience

To have a good oximeter buying experience, we recommend the following.

  1. Find a Reputable Distributor:  This is the most important consideration.  Find a dealer that understands oximeters.  Many distributors are looking for a quick buck.  It is sometime hard to get a real person on the phone to discuss your needs and the options available.  We suggest that you call their customer service number.  Ask questions and get a good feel for their product knowledge and trustworthiness.  When in doubt, keep shopping.  By the way, look for a better business bureau image on their website.  This can provide some buyer assurance for you.  It will also provide leverage in case the product or buying transaction goes south.
  2. Pick a Oximeter That Does the Job:  Most oximeters on the market are very accurate and dependable.  We have tested oximeters that have been dropped several time and still operate perfectly.  Many high priced devices have some nice features.  But most people only require the basic oxygen saturation and pulse reading.  The most basic of devices can satisfy your needs.
  3. Check the Warranty:  Most oximeters have at least a 1 year warranty.  This gets back to the right distributor.  A good distributor will work with you and the manufacturer to make sure you are assisted with service after the sale.
  4. Return Policy:  Look out of distributors that do not announce or promote their return policy.  Many distributors will charge a 20% restock fee and only allow a very short time frame to evaluate your purchase.  Call and ask for information about their returns policy.
